Each of the artists included in this exhibition curated by gallery director Claire Christie consciously engages and embeds an aspect of “chance” in the making or presentation of their work, fusing the work with a quality of the “intentionally unknown.” Exploring notions of both control and aleatory events, this teasing out of the unknown speaks to transcending the limits of conscious effect, while at the same time acknowledging that moving beyond the liminal, in and of itself, overturns a deliberate act, a controlled condition.

Michael Graham (1977 - ) is a Canadian artist whose artwork and research is concerned with the relationship between technology, theories of representation, and human nature. His work has been exhibited at galleries and festivals in Canada, Europe, and Asia.

Alison Rossiter (1953- ) has worked with the materials and processes of light sensitive, gelatin silver based photography since 1970. The darkroom is essential to her work process, whether it involves traditional methods or simple experimentation. Alison's work appears courtesy of Stephen Bulger Gallery.

Shirley Wiitasalo (1949- ) is a senior Canadian painter interested in exploring contrasts and contradictions using unexpected and provocative combinations of culture and nature while employing a deceptive economy of the painted surface and innovative use of colour.

Laurel Woodcock (1960- ) culls from the colloquial; a turn of phrase, song lyric, punctuation mark, or element of cinematic syntax - all become fodder from which she explores the problems and possibilities of language.
